About me and my work
Hello, I'm Rebeca Castellanos, a Mexican ceramic artist based in Hermosillo, Sonora. All of my pieces are made by hand either using the pottery wheel or with the coiling technique. To me, inspiration comes from nature. Being surrounded by nature makes my mind go to a place where all of the beauty, shape and synchronicities of it all leave me silent and in a state of awe. I then go back to the studio and start creating with what my subconscious brings to mind. Some of these creations manifest into my vases which are one of a kind. Others are turned into something utilitarian, which I can replicate to have more than one without stripping the uniqueness from each individual piece.

El torno taller de cerámica
I discovered ceramics in Buenos Aires, where I spent 10 years. Returning to Mexico, I opened my studio and teaching space, El Torno Taller de Cerámica in Hermosillo. On Wednesdays, we have an open studio class with regular students. This community of ceramicists I'm so grateful for and am very happy to get to be with others at the studio, at least one day a week! The rest of the week, I focus on creating pieces, from custom orders, and product testing to my own vases.
